I am a birthworker, in large part, because of how I was born…

My birth wasn’t exactly what my parents wanted, but they forged ahead with confidence and resolve to make this birth their own, no matter where or how it happened. Perhaps most importantly, after a more surgical birth than they’d anticipated, they leaned into the support that gathered around them, loved ones who acted as their doulas without even knowing it, and in doing so created a truly healing postpartum period

As I grew up and made my own way into the realm of prenatal, birth and postpartum care – first as an “unofficial” doula for friends and family, then as a student midwife and eventually as a Cornerstone certified full spectrum birthworker – it was the quiet glow of the “golden hour” after birth and what lay beyond it that captivated me. The tenderness, raw emotion, deep sacred bonding between parent and baby, and the sweetness of learning all there is to know about this brand-new human all combine to create a special kind of magic. It became clear to me that, in all its magic, the postpartum period was often forgotten after the intensity of birth, despite how important it truly is.
